Activity: Problem Solving
Concern: There are different strategies to solving problems

Equipment: One beach ball

Process: The participants are given the task of keeping a beach ball in the air for 30 seconds. They will get three tries. The group is asked if they have any questions? The facilitator tosses the beach ball in the air and times the group. Once the group has accomplished the task in three tries they are congratulated. However, the question is then asked, "How many participants in the group have not touched the ball?" Discussion follows on the importance of trying to give everyone in the group an opportunity to be involved. The group is asked for different ways everyone in the group can touch the ball within 15 seconds. Those participants who volunteer are given the opportunity to try their strategies with the support of the group. The number of strategies used depends on your time for the activity. Brief discussion follows on the use of different strategies in solving a problem.
