FAQs
How can I join LIN?
LIN does not have a formal membership structure. The web site and all its resources are freely available to all users. You can subscribe to one of our listservs if you wish to receive communications from your colleagues and weekly bulletins from LIN.
How can I contact other members?
Send a message to the LINNEWS listserv (linnews@lin.ca) which will distribute it to more than 1600 subscribers - professionals and volunteers. This is a moderated list; messages are usually approved and posted within one business day. Subscribe to LINNEWS.
What is the National Recreation Database?
The National Recreation database is a project endorsed by the
Interprovincial Sport and Recreation Council (ISRC) representing
provincial and territorial sport and recreation ministries across
Canada.
The database was designed to fill a gap in readily available
literature. Its focus is on practical, proven and frequently unpublished
information which is not available from traditional sources such as
libraries and bookstores. It is the kind of information one obtains from
one’s colleagues. These documents are in full text, and are available
for downloading free of charge by anyone who logs onto the LIN website.
Examples of the types of documents include:
- research papers
- administrative policies
- program descriptions
- job descriptions
- waiver forms
- manuals
- conference and workshop presentations
- bibliographies
- training manuals
How can I use the full text documents I retrieve?
Documents may be downloaded or printed (single copy only). You are free to edit the documents you download and use them for your own projects, but you should show your appreciation by providing credit to the originator of the document. You must not sell the document or make a profit from reproducing it. You must not copy, extract, summarize or distribute downloaded documents outside of your own organization in a manner which competes with or substitutes for the distribution of the database by LIN.
What do I do if I can't find the information in the database?
The database does not contain published books or articles. Several comprehensive journal indexes are listed on the LIN site for your convenience.
Back to topIts easy to contribute documents! Choose any documents
which you feel are of value to your colleagues. Remove any confidential
information from them and make sure that your organization is identified
on the document, along with the date it was written. Attach it to a
message, or send the URL to info@lin.ca. We will do the rest - index and
abstract it, convert it to pdf format and add it into the database.
Your
association can assist LIN with the collection of documents and
awareness of the database through publicity, conferences, promotional
campaigns etc.
Your non-profit organization can make its documents and conference papers available in full text in the database or can list publications for sale with an email link for ordering.
