Building structures with blocks - Ice Breakers & Group Team-building Tasks
Courtesy of Alf Grigg
Concern
- How can a participant decide when and how to contribute to a group activity?
Equipment
- Building blocks i.e. wooden blocks
Process
The participants
sit in a circle. Each participant is given the same number of blocks (3-5).
There should be silence. The task is to build a communal structure in the
middle of the circle. Only one participant at a time may leave his/her place
and put a block in position. The next participant may not stand up until
the last one has sat down again.
Debriefing
Discussion
with the following questions: Who is first to put on a block in place?
Who hesitates? Why? Do some participants have difficulty placing their
blocks when they want to? Are some participants too hesitant? Are
others aware of this? Discuss techniques that can be used to deal with
hesitation and holding back.
