Job Title: Summer Camp Counsellor
Location: 20 Portugal Square and/or 101 Spruce Street
Contract type: Seasonal – 9 weeks
Position Duration: Monday June 26th, 2017 - Friday August 25th, 2017
Hours/Wage: $11.40/hr. - 35.5-37.5 hours per week between 8am and 6pm
Reporting to: Camp Supervisor & Children’s Services Coordinator
Job Description: • Assist in developing and facilitating a creative, challenging, fun and memorable eight-week program for campers ages 6-13 and assist in the evaluation of the program • Help to ensure the safety and security of the campers and camp and assist in responding to critical incidents • Assist in ensuring camp program is well organized and implemented as planned • Participate in 1-week camp training and orientation from June 26th-30th, 2017 • Provide guidance and support to camp volunteers and Leaders in Training (LITS) • Complete appropriate paperwork in a timely manner (incident reports, program plans and evaluations) and reports to Program Coordinators on a regular basis to update the camp’s status • Take day to day instruction from Camp Coordinator and Children’s Services Coordinator • Plan and implement daily leadership activities • Demonstrate an ability to turn everyday activities into teachable moments and learning opportunities to help promote the healthy childhood development of our members • Maintain positive professional relationships with peers, campers, parents and other Toronto Kiwanis patrons • Abide by the Policies and Procedures of the Toronto Kiwanis Boys and Girls Clubs
Minimum Qualifications: • Minimum 16 years of age • Standard first aid qualifications (acquired before first day of training) • Must be able to participate in aquatic activities on a daily basis • Certified in HIGHFIVE - Principles of Healthy Childhood Development • Currently enrolled full time in an academic Institution and intend on returning in the Fall of 2017
