Reports to: Aquatic Operations Coordinator
Position Summary: At the City of Leduc, we offer the best aquatic experience. The best lessons, safest swims, and cleanest facilities. As part of the aquatic supervisory team, this position will be responsible for ensuring an effective, efficient, and safe operation of aquatic facilities and that services are delivered to the highest level of quality. This position is designated as the lead while on shift and will train, mentor and evaluate lifeguard staff. This individual will be required to work a rotating schedule including days and evenings Sun-Thurs and Tues-Sat.

Duties and Responsibilities: • leadership, mentoring, training, and supervision of the aquatic staff • ensure safety for aquatics patrons and staff by implementing and following facility policies and provincial legislation • ensure excellent customer service is being provided in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere • assist to educate the public regarding facility policies and procedures related to aquatics • follow established operational and maintenance guidelines of the facility • ensure a high standard of cleanliness is maintained • complete daily operational checks, mechanical tasks, water tests, monitor water quality, and complete filtration maintenance • responsible for teaching a wide variety of swim programs and lifeguarding, as required • recognize and respond to first aid and other emergency situations • alter shifts or call in staff, as required • complete administrative duties and related assignments, as required • recruit outside services, as required • assist with the day to day operations of the aquatic centre • perform other related duties and responsibilities, as required
Education: • Grade 12 diploma and the necessary experience, knowledge and skills through a combination of formal education and field experience
Certifications: • National Lifeguard (NL) Certification OR Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate (RC LG) • Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC) OR Standard First Aid (SFA) • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) • Pool Operator Level 1 • Pool Operator Level 2, would be an asset • Lifesaving Instructor or Assistant Lifeguard Instructor, would be an asset • AFLCA / Aquatic Fitness Instructor certification, would be an asset • Lifeguard Instructor certification, would be an asset
Experience: • minimum 2 years of aquatic experience • supervision and leadership experience Knowledge, skills and abilities: • ability to work individually and as a team member • ability to complete monthly fitness and knowledge skills tests • superior interpersonal, public relations, and verbal communication skills • willingness to promote a positive and fun work environment • ability to attend all required training and in-service sessions • ability to work evenings and weekends as required • commitment to expanding and improving your skills and knowledge through on-going training and additional certifications • independent decision making, problem solving, and analytical skills • knowledge of Risk Management and Occupational Health and Safety practices • possess exceptional organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload efficiently
Working Conditions: These positions require prolonged periods of pool and dry land instruction. Extensive contact with the public, in person, is required.
