Position Summary Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation Programs, this position will develop and operate children and youth focused recreation programs and events to meet the needs of the community;

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Development: • Develop and implement innovative programming to meet the needs of a diverse population; • Continuously analyze and modify existing programs and processes; • Implement and support all aspects of a comprehensive youth engagement strategy including youth committee facilitation, youth friendly advocacy and special projects; • Research community needs, demographics, trends and best practices for recreation programs to ensure they are appropriate and targeted effectively; • Liaise with other children and youth serving agencies to maximize community opportunities, benefits and planning of programs and services; • Conduct program quality assurance through ongoing program visits, observations, customer engagement and performance measures; Supervision: • Ensure a safe program environment for the public and staff in accordance with applicable, guidelines, policies and procedures; • Recruit, supervise, develop, motivate and evaluate part time, seasonal, contract staff and volunteers; • Lead ongoing training for compliance with legislative, corporate and industry standards; • Provide ongoing supervision, leadership, coaching and recognition to staff and volunteers; • Develop and deliver a proactive recruitment and retention plan for program staff; Customer Service: • Provide timely and effective resolution of customer complaints that meets the customers’ expectations using solid judgment, decision making and effective communication skills; • Liaise with internal and external groups as required related to programs, services and events; • Encourage community involvement from a programming perspective; • Interpret City and departmental policies and procedures for residents and staff; Administrative Functions: • Prepare and verify payroll entry; • Prepare and follow up on incident /accident reporting; • Collect and analyze data related to programs, customer satisfaction, revenues and expenses; • Develop and monitor staff and volunteer schedules; • Document staff and volunteer training, ensuring staff certifications remain current; • Review and maintain training manuals; Budget: • Monitor and report on expenses and revenue actuals and forecast; • Purchase and manage inventory of program supplies and materials; • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Competencies Two (2) year diploma in Recreation, Physical Education or related field; Two (2) years' related experience in children and youth program design, staff supervision and administration;

Must hold and maintain certifications as follows: • Standard First Aid and C.P.R. – C • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development Working knowledge of registration software an asset;

Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands Must possess and maintain a valid class “G” Ontario driver’s license, and satisfactory driver’s abstract, with the ability to provide own transportation; Must obtain and maintain satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check), including Vulnerable Sector screening at own expense at time of hire; Excellent customer service skills and experience; Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel); Sound judgment and decision making skills; Effective written and oral communication skills; Ability to excel in a team setting; Specific and current knowledge of children and youth programming; Demonstrated proficiencies in community outreach programming and initiatives; Demonstrated ongoing professional development and knowledge of best practices in children and youth programming; Ability to deal courteously an effectively with all levels of staff, program participants, and members of the general public; Schedule includes days, evenings and weekends; hours must be flexible to accommodate program requirements.
