Regulations under this Act:
R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 1017 General
The Act authorizes municipalities to borrow money from the Province to make loans to the owners of shoreline properties for the construction of protective structures, or for the repair or improvement of existing structures that may have been damaged or eroded due to high water levels, ice or erosion of the shoreline. Retaining walls, dykes, breakwaters, groynes, cribs and other structures designed for the rehabilitation or protection, of property on the shores of lakes, rivers or other bodies of water are works that are included in the Act.
Also eligible for loans are the costs associated with repairs to or the relocation or raising of buildings that may be subject to the same damage or potential damage done by natural elements.
An owner of land in territory that is not located within a municipality can apply directly to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for similar funding assistance.
