YMCA of Greater Toronto launches Strong Kids Campaign
Description
TORONTO, Feb. 17 /CNW/ - The YMCA of Greater Toronto launches its Strong Kids fundraising campaign today so that more people can benefit from YMCA programs and activities in the midst of uncertain economic times.
The YMCA Strong Kids focus is to raise much needed financial support for children, teens and families who are unable to afford the full cost of participation in a YMCA program or activity. This year, the Strong Kids Campaign's fundraising goal is $3.2 million.
Last year, through the generous donations of our donors, the YMCA of Greater Toronto was able to assist more than 20,000 people. "The YMCA strives to serve as a consistent community hub that people can rely on in good times and bad and our services are needed now, more than ever, during these trying economic times," said Mide Akerewusi, Chief Development Officer, YMCA of Greater Toronto.
"Strong Kids will ensure that more people will benefit from YMCA programs which are proven to have a positive impact on children, youth and families, dramatically enhancing their health and overall wellbeing."
YMCA Strong Kids donations can help:
- a child attend day camp for the first time,
- a struggling teen find employment;
- a child to participate in a recreation or fitness activity;
- a struggling family to use a child care facility,
- and teens and young adults develop the confidence and skills to avoid addiction, violence and isolation.
Television and radio public service announcements will also launch in February. The YMCA has been opening doors to people, programs and places for more than 155 years. The YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign focuses on building strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
