Abstract
Jurisdictional complexity has long been recognized as a barrier in managing natural resources and ecological integrity across regional ecosystems. The Crown of the Continent Ecosystem (CCE) is centred on the Waterton- Glacier International Peace Park and includes numerous jurisdictions in Alberta, British Columbia and Montana.
Since an initial meeting in 2001, representatives from over 20 government agencies from across the CCE have participated in the Crown Managers Partnership. They gather annually for a Forum to explore ways of collaborating on shared issues in the CCE. A multi-agency Steering Committee coordinates activities on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Participants in the CMP include federal, state, provincial and aboriginal agencies with a statutory or regulatory responsibility for managing land and resources in the CCE.
This presentation from the 2009 Parks Conference hosted by Alberta Recreation and Parks Association focusses on the history, current activities, challenges and successes of the Crown Managers Partnership.
