Abstract
This presentation, from the 2009 Parks Conference hosted by Alberta Recreation and Parks Association, provides highlights of ARPA’s draft discussion paper that will be forwarded to the Alberta Government, local governments and members and allied stakeholders of the Association.
The presentation reveals the past and current state of Alberta’s community parks and open spaces network by highlighting the challenges, the science behind those challenges and the five key strategies recommended to move the province forward in developing quality and integrated community parks and open spaces networks. The report touches on the connection between community parks, open spaces and health, nature and nature conservancy as a public policy, targeted investment, planning harmonization and the need for more research.
