This presentation gives an overview of how and why Edmonton’s Master Naturalist Program was developed. It presents Edmonton’s experience of the opportunities and benefits of engaging community members in natural area protection. It also looks at some of the challenges of incorporating community stewardship into the management of City-owned natural areas, and some steps the City has taken to overcome these challenges.
