Pandemic of physical inactivity kills as many as smoking
Description
Lack of exercise is killing just as many people as smoking and obesity according to a new study. The study says lack of activity increases the risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, breast and colon cancers, and shortens life expectancy, and suggests that one out of every 10 deaths worldwide can be attributed to a lack of exercise.
Another estimate, by the World Health Organization (WHO), estimates inactivity causes fewer deaths worldwide, 3.2 million compared to the 5.7 million estimated in the study.
