Abstract
Based on a presentation to given to the Richmond, IN "Study Circles on Racism Group", this paper discusses the role of skateboarding and skateparks in improving race relations and building community. The presenter talks about the origins of skateboarding and its connection to hip-hop and how this appeals to young people. He discusses skateparks in other cities, in particular Richmond B.C., and how they have been funded and how they hope to fund this skatepark in Richmond, Indiana.
