CPTED - Crime Prevention through Environmental Design originated in the design and planning professions, and is gaining favor as a concept that needs to be a standard component of park and facility planning and operations. CPTED is based on the premise that proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in fear and incidence of crime and improvement in quality of life. This presentation provides information on CPTED’s key concepts and major benefits, looks at some applied examples, and explains how to incorporate its principles into the community planning process. Presentation at the 2003 CPRA/AQLM Annual Conference
