The author describes the results of a study undertaken to see how integration is working in summer camps throughout Ontario and to evaluate the attitudes of Counselors and Camp Directors. Five camps were selected and interviews were conducted with directors and support counselors. The results show that as the staff member who has the most continuous contact with the campers, the camp counselor has the greatest impact on the camping experience of each child. Therefore, the job of hiring appropriate camp counselors clearly becomes one of the director's most important responsibilities, if the camp is going to be successful in carrying out its goals and objectives, and provide a memorable experience for campers. The task of hiring the appropriate mix of counselors for any camp demands appropriate attention, in addition to insight and perception on the part of directors. A list of recommendations is provided.
