The after school time period, 3 – 6 p.m. is a critical determinant of childhood physical activity. When children and youth are left alone during this time period they tend to participate in sedentary activities, high-risk behaviours, and often display poor eating habits. This session provides information on national and provincial initiatives to remove barriers and encourage physical activity in children and youth. Recreation Connections Manitoba and Physical and Health Education Canada describe how are working to develop strategies and best practices with the intent to increase physical activity, healthy eating and active transportation within these critical hours.

Presentation from the 2012 Recreation Connections Manitoba Annual Conference.
