Building a Connected Parks and Open Space System
Co-Presenters: Geoff Smith and Leslie McWeeny
This presentation looks at how Edmonton is experiencing transformation change, not only at the greenfield edges, but also through intensification in mature neighbourhoods and within the downtown core. It discusses how Edmonton must get more out of our parks system by creating multifunctional landscapes that meet a variety of city-wide objectives. These include support for physical, social and mental rejuvenation and restoration; maintaining natural heritage connections; providing ecological services such as storm water management and increased biodiversity. It looks at the city's new City-wide Parks and Open Space Master Plan, engaging citizens and other stakeholders in the future of our City.
