Business Meets Recreation: Learnings from Post-Thatcher UK

Dovercourt Recreation Association
Mike Tait

Margaret Thatcher ignited a revolution in the United Kingdom’s government-funded recreation sector. The changes forced providers to become judicious leaders, applying business principles to recreation services. This session outlines a success story from a former senior recreation manager and sports consultant in the UK. He describes how Quest, the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure, introduced quality assurance and improved service offerings through a culture of branding, sales and marketing.

A presentation from the 2014 Parks and Recreation Ontario Educational Forum and Trade Show.
