Centralize or Decentralize? Choosing and Implementing Reorganization

Mary Lynn Vessey

Given added responsibilities such as culture and tourism, recreation mandates have evolved; our operating model must evolve, too. Reorganization can have many drivers, from cost savings to redeployment of staff or new infrastructure. Whatever the reason, change is difficult for staff and the leadership team. Yet reorganization can be done well by following principles of engagement, change management and communication. Drawing from a recent recreation alignment at the City of Mississauga, this session offers tools for choosing and implementing the best structure for your organization. We’ll discuss trends in our sector and how to structure your organization to respond.
