Collective Action: Empowering Calgarians to Move More and Sit Less at Home, School, Work and Play
Presenters: Cynthia Watson (Vivo), Chad London (Mount Royal University), Shelley Shea (City of Calgary)
This presentation looks at a new model that breaks down silos and creates a vision for realizing the recreation sector’s potential for social impact. The City of Calgary Recreation, Vivo for Healthier Generations, and Mount Royal University are leading a movement to create evidence-based, community-driven solutions to the national challenge of physical inactivity and sedentary behaviour in Calgary. This session looks at why such a partnership was critical to success, outlines the process for working together, shares the group’s long term plan and solutions created to date, and offers practical advice on multi-sector partnerships and increasing organizational social impact.
