Effectively implementing parent and athlete education programs in a sports context

Julie Booke

Summary: Best practices for program development and implementation focus on creating the best program, implementing it successfully, reaching the program goals and objectives, and ultimately benefiting the end users. However, there is often a gap between research and practice. The purpose of this presentation is to improve knowledge translation by highlighting lessons learned on program implementation through two joint research projects. These two research projects were carried out in Alberta and Ontario to examine the implementation of the Respect in Sport Parent Program. ... Findings from the two projects provide programmers, agencies, and practitioners with information on the challenges the various hockey associations had with program implementation, the perceptions of program participants, and best practices and strategies for successful program implementation.
