As Alberta’s workforce attracts international workers to fill shortages, communities are looking for new ways to engage this new population. This session explores the barriers and challenges faced by newcomers to Canada and the opportunities available to help facilitate the transition into Alberta communities. A panel of speakers featured programs offered by Parks Canada (Learn to Camp), Alberta Parks (Nature as a Second Language) and other initiatives. In this presentation Mayran Kalah discusses Community Programming, the need for and benefits of exercise and outdoor recreation, and the use of TV to reach newcomers and help them adapt.
