Recreation and sports programs provide children and youth with opportunities for physical, social, emotional, and psychological development. The factors that influence participation are complex, but common barriers that have been reported include cost, transportation, family support, and social and cultural barriers. Although there are many programs that assist with reducing barriers to participation, there is a growing need for a systemic approach. This session leads participants through an interactive facilitative discussion about accessibility to find solutions for reducing barriers to recreation in communities.
