Global Geoparks: A New Concept and a New Reality in Canada
Geoparks focus on preservation of geoheritage and cultural heritage related to human interactions with the Earth, as well as education related to the heritage recognized in the area. They are defined areas with a number of protected and/or interpreted sites that collectively represent a small portion of the area. Stonehammer Global Geopark in southern New Brunswick, established in 2010, is Canada's first geopark and celebrates one billion years of stories.
