Keeping Aquatic Settings Safe: Legalities and Realities

Michael Shane

Co-Presenters: Michael Shane, Lifesaving Society, and Gary Sanger, City of Toronto

Most public aquatic settings in Ontario are regulated. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools, wading pools, spas and waterslides all follow exacting rules set out by government. Some are the law, while others are guidelines. If you run a public waterfront, on the other hand, there are no rules. In all those settings, what does it take to keep your community safe? This presentation sorts through the regulations, discusses national and international trends and highlights what’s important to ensuring aquatic safety in your community.
