Measuring leisure motivation

Beard, Jacob G. and Mounir G. Ragheb. (1983). Measuring leisure motivation. Journal of Leisure Research. 15(3): 219-228.
Abstract: Developed a 48-item Likert-type scale, the Leisure Motivation Scale, to assess the psychological and sociological reasons for participation in leisure activities. Four subscales were derived from factor analysis: Intellectual, Social, Competence-Mastery, and Stimulus-Avoidance. The instrument was administered to 1,205 Ss (aged 16+ yrs). Internal consistency reliabilities of the subscales were approximately .90. (21 ref).
