Taking collective action, The Human Services Planning Board of York Region developed a formal partnership of school boards, local municipalities and York Region that will secure more space for low and moderate-income families to access recreational and cultural programs. Plans include affordable after school programs at four neighbourhood schools and expanded programs in other municipalities. This presentation looks at the journey taken by the partnership’s Fair Access Working Group as it selected schools, crafted a memorandum of understanding, developed programs, set fees and amassed the data needed to calculate return on investment.
