The Political Landscape
As an emerging leader, it is important to understand the political environment within which you will be working. Politics speaks to both people and processes. The people politics can revolve around your interaction with elected officials, whether they are councillors, committee members or a board of directors. The process politics can be around how agendas are moved forward and what preparation is needed to help position recommendations and reports to be accepted and adopted as compared to challenged and dismissed. As one of the youngest presidents of the Parks and Recreation Federation of Ontario (predecessor to PRO), former emerging leader John Macintyre shares his personal experiences in traversing the political landscape. This is a presentation from the 2007 Parks and Recreation Ontario Educational Forum and Trade Show.
