This session discusses the positive impact of Edmonton’s Inner City Recreation and Wellness Program (ICRWP), which works toward removing barriers to recreation for Edmonton’s most vulnerable. By engaging the community through a diverse range of activities, the ICRWP offers a supportive environment for people to pursue healthy interests.

The presentation explains how the ICRWP creates inclusive and accessible activities that foster active
living, connect people with nature, and enhance the well-being of participants. It shows that by building up from a grassroots level, community members take on roles of stewardship and ownership in the program, which ensures its sustainability.
