Active Playgrounds Workshop

Organization Sponsor: Halton Region Health Department

Organization Partner: Halton Region Child Services

Program Description

A workshop on how to promote active playgrounds. Child Health Services promoted the event via school nurses. Child Health helped to promote Active Playgrounds by highlighting the PROPS manual and explaining how PROPS has been successful in other communities to reduce bullying.
Our Heart Health network linked IWALK to active playgrounds by providing every school
that registered for IWALK with an opportunity to apply for grant money to paint lines on
their tarmac. They also supplied prizes for the schools and a skipping rope to each child who
attended.
Both school boards promoted and supported Active Playgrounds by advertising on their
electronic “CHAT” for teachers, and by facilitating the registration process. The Halton Region Health Department provided the lead person to coordinate the event, provided one location, supplied the snacks, and print resources.
Participants consisted of 2 adults and 2 child leaders from
each registered school.

Funding Sources:

Grant from Trillium Foundation
