Program Description

A Program under the Active Schools/Healthy Schools Initiative, a variety of activities were offered to students. A Launch Nite was held to inform parents, students and the Community about the project, which ran for the 2002/2003 School Year and will be continued for the 2004/2005 year. A Physical Activity Coordinator was hired to coordinate the pilot project which is called Think Like a Kid/Act Like a Kid. Activities included:
Development of a Youth Action Team for Grades 10, 11 and 12. They participated in a Leadership Workshop; volleyball, softball, and many other sports and recreation activities. New activities are planned for the new School Year.

Started slowly, gained momentum over the School Year. Provided many opportunities for skill development for all students

School Administration being onside with the project. School staff slower to come onside

Challenges To Meet Them: 

Getting community support and a structure/strategy for volunteer recruitment. The How is the challenge. Planning development of a resource package for teachers for Fall 2004.
