After School Bussing Pilot Project

Organization Sponsor: Chignecto Central Regional School Board

Program Description

As part of the Active Schools Initiative, two schools in East Hants took part in a busing pilot program. Over the previous couple of years, surveys sent out to the community identified transportation as a barrier to children participating in after school programs. The Active Schools Committee met and invitations went out to the Schools to participate in the project. With the cooperation of the Cobequid Central Regional School Board, buses were made available to transport children to after school programs. AK/HK Funding enabled a program staff to be hired. Many children now are able to enjoy the benefits of regular physical activity.
