It is divided into 3 age groups. Ages 4-11, 12-18, 19 and up. This competition is truly unique. It brings youth, children and adults together to share in the love of freestyle dance. It happened at St. Pat's Alexander School.

Program Approximate Cost:

5.00

Funding Sources:

The event was paid for by the cover charge for spectators at the door plus a small 5.00 charge for participants. The radio station 101.3 also assisted.

Strategies For Sustainability:

This event gives the street dancer a chance to perform with trained dancers and win prizzes inspite of the fact they may not attend classes on at a dance studio. Kids love to perform and have a chance to showcase their talent. The event is open to all and very inexpensive.

Impact Of Program:

There are many dance competitions in Nova Scotia but none for Hip Hop alone. This provides a showcase event for all dancers whether you are trained or not. It inspires dancers to train for an up and coming event . Without an event they may not choose to train.

Evaluation Tools:

Feedback from the participants.

Key Elements Towards Success:

Inclusion of every one is essential as well as inexpensive and fun. The kids who attended loved this event. It was more relaxed than a regular dance competition and trained dancer got to see self trained dancers. It was an very inspiring to those who attended. It is also open to dancers age 4 and up.

Challenges To Meet Them:

This event is becoming a regular festival and as with new things it needs to build on a reputation. If the performers had a good time the event will be successful and encourage other dancers to attend next year.

Length and Stage of Project:

This project began in 2004 and is becoming an annual event.
