BBoy Crew of Disabled Dancers
Organization Sponsor: Ill-Ability
ILL-Abilities is an International Breakdance crew with dancers who may be perceived as being limited in some way. Each dancer has taken those limitations and created their own unique style. The purpose of this team is to show the world that anything is possible as long as you keep an open mind, are creative, and adapt yourself to any situation.
ILL-ABILITIES crew currently consists of four dancers, each with a unique physical limitation.
Tommy "Tommy Guns" Ly (USA) – In early 2004, Tommy was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, the most common type of malignant bone cancer and consequently had his right leg amputated.
Sergio "Checho" Carvajal (Chile) – Sergio was born with a major malformation of his lower body.
Jacob "Kujo" Lyons (USA) – Jacob was born completely deaf in his right ear and lost up to 75% of hearing in his left ear due to an ear infection at a young age. Kujo uses a hearing aid and lip reads.
Luca "Lazylegz" Patuelli (Canada) - Luca suffers from the rare muscular disorder Arthrogryposis that affects his mobility.
In time, other unique dancers will be introduced and will perform & battle as part of the ILL-Abilities crew. The ILL-Abilities crew aims to make their mark on BBoy culture forever, and it's essential that the journey is documented so those around the world can feel the impact of their remarkable achievements and influential messages. The opposite of disability: adaptation of power, strength, and creativity. Anything one puts their mind to will be done. Creating advantages from disadvantages: A physical or mental “handicap” that one adapted themselves to, to pursue living a full, normal life – Luca “Lazylegz” Patuelli
By participating in performances and BBoy competition Luca " Lazylegz" has stunned the BBoy community with his accomplishments. He devotes much time as a motivational speaker. Luca enjoys visiting children hospitals and schools telling his own story of determination and optimism. He believes that everyone can be an inspiration to him, since we all learn from one another, and it’s about taking the bad and making it good.
His massive impact on the Montreal community began when Lazylegz competed at top level events such as Freestyle Sessions 8, City vs. City 5, Evolution 2, War is War and many more. Luca is a regular performer in Halifax at the Buskers and Jazz Festival.
