Program Description

Beach Volleyball was offered in 2008 and was enjoyed so much that it is now a regular event for Canada Day Celebrations. There is also an annual Family Beach Day which has happened for generations in Yarmouth and the Beach Volleyball Tournament is now being added to this event.
Canada Day Beach Volleyball Tournament was held at Port Maitland Beach July 1st, 1pm—4pm
Four on Four Beach Volleyball tournament with prizes for winners!
Ages 16 and up. $10.00 a team or $2.50 a player.

Strategies For Sustainability: 

This is a very inexpensive activity to host and it allows for mixed ages and fitness levels. It also provides entertainment for the families on the beach. The equipment is provided by the local recreation department.

Impact Of Program: 

The youth loved this event so much that it will become a part of other beach celebrations. Ten teams entered involving 40 players. The competition lasted for 5 hours.

Key Elements Towards Success: 

This is an inexpensive, multi generational sport that enables many participants to form teams. There are prizes for participants and winners.

Challenges To Meet Them: 

The only difficulty was starting a new activity. Once experienced the participants encouraged other people to become involved. Of course the weather also becomes a major factor. Light rain and wind does not stop the game just high winds.

This program began in 2008.
