Bike Week in HRM : 76 Activities to Celebrate Cycling

Program Description

HRM’s Annual Bike Week is held during the first week of June every year. TRAX plays a key role in organizing this event. Bike Week is an exciting, community driven event that encourages people of all ages and abilities from all over HRM to ride a bicycle for transportation, recreation or sport. HRM Bike Week kicks into gear this weekend on Saturday, June 3rd. Come out and celebrate the bike, cycle activities for the whole family all week long, and they're free!

Some of the events that happen during Bike Week include the Community Bicycle Auction, Bike to Work Day - Pancake Breakfasts, Halifax Regional Policy Bike Safety Rodeos, free bicycle maintenance workshops, and the Canadian Commuter Challenge.

Strategies For Sustainability: 

Most events were already being offered to the community but they are now organized into a festival. Organizers feel leverage is an important quality necessary to maintain success.

In previous years around 1,000 people participated.

This year a more concerted effort is being made to count participants and a draw evaluation survey is being done.

The events are easy to organize but finding a coordinator is a challenge.
