Program Description

There's a warm welcome in your neighborhood at the Alzheimer Day Program where qualified professional staff are specially trained to care for and be sensitive to the needs of the families we serve. The Day Programs are uniquely designed for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other irreversible dementia. You do not need a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or any special referral to access our services.

The Brampton Day Centre is the second of our four day programs to open.
We plan our programs based on individual's interests and level of success. Some of the programs include, but are not limited to:
- Reading Round table
- Music therapy
- Arts, crafts and woodworking
- Cooking and Baking
- Word Games and Trivia
- Pet Therapy
- Physical Activities
- Board Games such as Down Memory Lane and Dominoes
- Diner's Club
- Special Theme Days and Outings
There is always the opportunity for social interactions and meeting new friends.

Whether you enjoy crafts, gardening, pets, music, meal preparation, exercise, group discussion, games, projects, outings, or special events and parties, we'll design a program to suit you.

Strategies For Sustainability:

The Alzheimer Society Peel was incorporated in 1983 as a charitable non-profit Society. Since that time, our Chapter has diligently worked to support families and individuals affected by Alzheimer's disease. The Society serves the Region of Peel through our offices in Brampton and Mississauga. Our Chapter promotes public and professional awareness of Alzheimer's disease and related dementia and offers a variety of programs and services. All services and programs operate either free of charge or for a nominal fee. The Alzheimer Society Peel works with all service providers and levels of government to ensure that optimum health and social services are provided for persons with Alzheimer's disease and their families in the Region of Peel.

Impact Of Program:

One of the most effective forms of respite for families and particularly Alzheimer’s patients is an Adult Day-Care Program. This can be a wonderful resource for families. While you tend to other life issues, the participant is occupied with interesting tasks and activities commensurate with their functioning and cognitive abilities. They receive nutritious meals and, depending on the program, their hygiene and incontinence problems are handled by a professional and caring staff.

Key Elements Towards Success:

Our Centres are designed with open and quiet areas, wander paths, full kitchen facilities, wheelchair accessibility and gardens. The home-like environment is safe, secure, and beautifully custom-designed for the support and enjoyment of our participants.

Challenges To Meet Them:

The cost includes all program supplies, nutritious meals and snacks. Transportation is available at a cost of $8.00 per round trip in Peel Region.

Length and Stage of Project:

It officially opened on June 26, 1998
