Program Description

Our active play school provides a safe and nurturing environment for your children to learn, grow and experience the world. Children do arts & crafts, play music, and have gym and story time while unlocking their potential through play-based hands-on experiences. Children must be at least 3 years old and toilet trained to register. Each child should also bring a nut-free snack and indoor sneakers to each class.

Play School Swim Lessons, Fun with French,Primary Prep, Tiny Tumblers,

Led by enthusiastic, active, and qualified instructors, we offer many recreational camp options. Whether you are looking for summer activities for the kids, or something to keep them entertained for Professional Development Days, we have what you’re looking for.

Funding Sources:

The Canada Games Centre Summer Camp will also offer a fee-assistance program sponsored by the Toronto Raptors for registrants in low-income families.

At the Canada Games Centre we are always looking for ways to help Nova Scotians become more active and develop lifelong healthy habits.

By partnering with businesses, sports organizations and government initiatives, we are able to provide financial support to those that would otherwise not be able to participate in physical activity without assistance.

Funding for Recreation programming is currently available through Jumpstart & Thrive! We also offer funding for our Summer Camps.

This year we turned our attention to adopting national movements and invested in the health of the community we serve. Physical literacy results in children leading an active life. As the word “literacy” implies, just like reading, basic movement skills need to be taught. It’s similar to when we learn to read – we don’t start with novels.

Strategies For Sustainability:

The Canada Games Centre is operated by the Canada Games Centre Society, a not for profit organization committed to enriching the lives of our community.

Impact Of Program:

The After School Program is one of the 3 most popular programs. 1,300 kids participated in After School and Summer Camps.

Challenges To Meet Them:

2013-2014 was a tremendous year of growth and opportunity for the CGC. We focused on expanding our programming and adopting national initiatives such as physical literacy and Active for Life.
We addressed those who had financial barriers to accessing our recreation, aquatic and wellness programs by partnering with Jumpstart and Thrive!

Length and Stage of Project:

The Canada Games Centre was built as the legacy of the 2011 Winter Canada Games. In February of 2011, the Centre hosted the badminton, syncronised swimming and artistic gymnastics events.

The Canada Games Centre is now a community recreation centre open to the public. We’re a privately operated facility run by a non-profit society that seeks to promote fitness and wellness in our community. The Centre runs recreation programs, camps, fitness classes and much more.
