Program Description

Collicutt Siding Golf Course is more recreation centre than country club. Collicutt's very popular Junior Golf Academy for kids 4 through 14 starts up on Monday, May 28 and runs until the end of August. It's a great way to introduce your child to the sport of golf, while having fun .Lessons are aimed at kids who want to learn the basics.Lessons run for about an hour, starting at either 5, 6 or 7 pm. Parents can chose the time that works best for them.
The sessions are split into three segments, driving, chipping and putting and the children move through each station, hitting balls and receiving instruction from the course’s golf pros. The program is meant to be a fun way to expose children to the game.
If a child shows interest in becoming one of Canada’s top junior golfers, he or she can be invited to join the Wednesday program, which provides more hands-on instruction.

Strategies For Sustainability:

What I like most about the (Monday) program is we take everyone,” said King. “We have lost the old boys stigma about golf and broken down any barriers between the golf course and the community. It’s now seen as a family recreation facility as much as a golf course.”Collicutt Siding Golf Club is a non-profit organization run for the benefit of the community.

Impact Of Program:

Every Monday evening, more than 300 children from Airdrie, Crossfield, Calgary and as far north as Olds invade the course’s practice area for the CSGC Junior Golf Academy.Since the program started four years ago, the junior program has exploded

Key Elements Towards Success:

Each child receives a t-shirt at the beginning of the season and a hotdog and drink at the end of every one-hour session.“What I like most about the (Monday) program is we take everyone,” The program is meant to be a fun way to expose children to the game.
