Strategies For Sustainability:

Dovercourt Recreation Association (DRA) is a not for profit charitable organization (Registered Charity No. 11944 4263 RR0001) dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community through recreation programs. In 1983, the City of Ottawa began work on the planning of a new community centre to replace the Westboro Community Centre. DRA was actively involved in the process, and when the new centre opened in 1987, Dovercourt was given the responsibility of managing the new centre through a service agreement. While we are part of the City of Ottawa’s recreation system, DRA is empowered to choose what programs it runs to meet the community’s needs, and how those programs are delivered. Our motto is "A Community Working For the Community, Une communauté qui travaille pour la communauté". Staff, volunteers, clients, local community groups and businesses working together…that’s Dovercourt!

Impact Of Program:

Dovercourt’s mission is to enrich the lives of people in our community through:

  • Opportunities: DRA will provide high quality, creative, educational, recreational, fitness, social and leisure opportunities.
  • Teamwork: committed professional employees and dedicated community volunteers.
  • Environment: safe and friendly environments for our community and participants.
  • Building: DRA will continue to contribute to the development of a healthy community.
  • Sharing: DRA will share its assets and energy with other groups and individuals helping build our community.
  • Caring:  DRA will encourage and facilitate participation in our facilities, programs and services that is accessible
Key Elements Towards Success:

Our mission, motto and approach symbolize who we are. Our success in creating a well-run recreation center that meets the needs of our community permits us to include all segments of the community and fulfil our charitable mission. The vision sets out the desired future.

Dovercourt practices partnership, cooperation and collaboration, provides opportunities to be healthy, active and involved for all, provides safe and friendly environments, Dovercourt’s strength is people,  Dovercourt carefully stewards the community’s assets.

Challenges To Meet Them:

For those new to Dovercourt Recreation Centre, the first day of After School can be as scary as the first day of school no matter what grade you’re in. For that reason, we recommend you bring your child to Dovercourt before beginning the program to familiarize him/her with our centre. Many of our participants get to know Dovercourt through our open and family swims or just coming to play on the play structures in the park. If you are interested in one of our child care programs, or have questions, please feel free to call us or come in for a tour and see the program.

Length and Stage of Project:
