Program Description

The Clare Recreation Department offers a monthly calendar of physical activities for youth, such as swimming and skating. Activities take place on Mondays from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. A leader is hired one day per week in each elementary school to offer physical activity programming for students in grades 4 to 6 from 2:15 to 5:00 p.m.

The program is open to young people aged 5 to 12 years old and younger who are accompanied by an adult . This is a program that takes place after school hours 15 h 30-16 h 30. Local installation Church Point Université Sainte- Anne offers sessions of swimming and skating . 4 primary schools in the municipality of Clare receive a monthly schedule indicating 7 days per month during which the sessions of swimming and skating are free. Each session is sponsored by a local business and the Bureau of Health Promotion is sponsoring a session every two months. These sessions are therefore free !

Parents will be responsible to pick up their child to return home, because this offer is only valid for travel to sessions. We hope to reach children of working parents who could not come earlier because of this.

Strategies For Sustainability:

Since 2002, the Municipality of Clare’s Recreation Department has made great efforts to improve the residents’ health, by raising their awareness of the importance of physical activity at all ages, especially for school-age children and their parents. In partnership with CSAP, the Department of Health and Wellness, the Clare Health Committee, and the owners of recreational infrastructure, a number of active recreational activities have been conducted. Transportation is the responsibility of the parents. However, we are very excited to be working with the CSAP to provide transportation to some of the sessions in February on a trial basis. This will be offered only to the sessions however, and parents are still responsible for picking their children up. We are hoping to reach the children who can't get there because parents are working, but would be able to help in pick-up. This will help in our sustainability.

Impact Of Program:

Since the business have come on board the turn out has increased and children are able to take part in sports they otherwise would not be have the chance. For this months skating sessions we had 100 children participating.
