Harmony Outdoor Club

Organization Sponsor: Harmony Community Association

Program Description

Program Goal: to sponsor an outdoor activity each month for youth and families in the Community. An outdoor activity such as biking, hiking, canoeing, soccer, swimming, skiing, snowshoeing, coasting, and gym night. These activities are initiated by the youth. They choose an activity that they are interested in then they meet with an adult supervisor and plan that activity. The Leader(youth) is in charge of the running and advertising of that activity. Therefore they will take ownership of that function. This has worked out well because it spreads the work load amongst the youth and the adult supervisors.
Harmony Community Association is an excellent example of a community volunteer organization providing year- round recreation opportunities for youth and families tapping into their own resources combined with financial assis- tance from the AKHK fund.
