Program Description

This event was developed for the elementary children in the two local Boards of Education. They exchange a food bank item for a jingle bell and then take part in a school-based run. The Jingle Bell Run takes place the same day as the City of Kingston’s Annual Jingle Bell Walk. The event is simple and tailored to each school. It has been very successful with 14,000 students from 52 schools participating last year.

Strategies For Sustainability: 

This event happens at the same time as the City of Kingston Walk. It is a partnership between the local health unit and the local school board. It is a fundraiser for the local food bank.

Impact Of Program: 

It has been very successful with 14,000 students from 52 schools participating last year.The goals of the program are to increase physical activity levels of children and to promote the importance of an active lifestyle.

Evaluation Tools: 

Participants are included in evaluation process as well as the program director.

Key Elements Towards Success: 

The co-ed format helps maintain numbers and interest throughout the program. Many program graduates return as coach assistants.

This project began in 2005 and it has become an annual event at the school.
