May I say what a truly excellent job you are doing with LIN!
"May I say what a truly excellent job you are doing with LIN! The Partnerships piece from Ontario is excellent!
I am on a team called "GAPS V" which stands for Grants Alliances, Partnerships, Sponsorships, and Volunteers." For the most part I've headed up volunteers. I need to broaden my skills and managerial potential by gaining more familiarity with the "partnerships" piece of it. When I read such thoughtful, well analyzed and well produced material of the likes produced by Wendy Donovan-Neale, I begin to think were are just play-acting here. Thanks"

Journals on LIN - another excellent service!
"By the way, a couple of documents that you notified us of in relation to the database (Big steps and Youth recreation, make it happen) were significant in encouraging our senior management to reconsider our role in broader terms than dealing with state level sporting organisations! I see many threats to sport and recreation as a core activity of government, and I figure any help we can give each other strengthens our collective case. So thank you!"

I am finding LIN very useful
"I am only a recent user of LIN's services but I want to say that I am finding it very useful. I am a Recreation Planner for a Local Council in Adelaide Australia and I am from time to time looking for ideas for use by our Council. Just a few days ago I came across a very interesting report on a Canadian Council's policies relating to in-line skating which is now becoming quite a problem here on our public roads. I have made available a copy of the first few pages of the report to our Transport Manager who is very interested.
I hope to contribute some material sometime. In the meantime it is an excellent means of finding out what Councils in other countries are doing and I will be recommending to the Council's computer people that Council must get onto the Internet soon so that staff can take full advantage of services such as LIN. Keep up the good work!!"

I think your service is very valuable, keep up the good work!
"I think your service is very valuable, especially, when the information increases. Our organisation, the Foundation for Recreation in the Netherlands is also an organisation which facilitates users of information about leisure, recreation, tourism etc.
The bulletin boards can be very useful when there are enough participants and I think this will happen in the next months. The first step of your organisation towards a new information approach is very promising and I hope that you will continue doing this. In the Netherlands we already notice a growing need for international information exchange. Information in one country is always limited and it is absolutely necessary that we look abroad for information. Your bulletin board in information database can be very valuable for our work. I think our organisation in a (few) year(s) may be developing an identical database system for external use of leisure information. It is most likely that we than connect to developments in other countries like the Leisure Information Netwerk. So keep up the good work!"

It's great that LIN supports easy networking and sharing of ideas
"The City of Saskatoon Leisure Services Department has found the services of LIN to be very helpful and very timely. Although only 2 of our staff have internet access at this time, these staff have been able to use the resources available through LIN to assist many staff in various Branches of our Department. At a time when resources are tight, and staff seem stretched to the limit, it is great to have a resource like LIN that supports easy networking and sharing of ideas and information.
To date our Department has tried to share some information by adding to the National Database, and has accessed the database approximately once a month for support information when writing various reports. The database is easy to search, and is focussed on information that is practical to Leisure services professionals.
Agnes Croxford has been very helpful from our initial contact with LIN. Her prompt reply to specific information requests has always been welcomed as many of our needs have been 'last minute requests' in reply to requests for reports that have been 'suddenly dropped' on our Department.
The Bulletin Board section of LIN provides those of us in more remote locations, with an easy and quick way to share ideas and thoughts with other practitioners across the country and around the world."

I personally find LIN an invaluable service to me
"I personally find LIN an invaluable service to me as a recreation professional, as it allows me to stay informed on key issues affecting the recreation and leisure industry. Without LIN, it would be very difficult to keep track of latest research topics and upcoming conferences. True, much of the information can be found in academic journals, however, journals only come out 4 times a year, whereas the LIN is updated daily. Journal and newsletter subscriptions are expensive as well, which may not be a barrier for an academic institution such as the one I am employed by, but for a professional working in a small community setting who may not have access to the funds, it is a big concern."

I was surfing the net and I found your great web site
"I was surfing the net and I found your great web site. I think that it is fabulous. I have received a diploma in Recreation Leadership in 1996 and I have been trying to find a job ever since. I talk to anyone who will listen to me about my field and some people gave me some great tips and have related similar experiences.
One tip I was told was to go on the internet and here and I am surfing away.
Thanks a lot and again, I think that this is a great web page!!"

Just wanted to thank you and the LIN membership for the help
"Just wanted to thank you, and the LIN membership for all of your help!
Since I sent you my e-mail request on January 28th, I have been very pleased with the response. In less than one weeks time, I have received over ten messages from all over the province, as well as four municipal policies and manuals on volunteer/staff screening.
An e-mail message that took approximately two minutes to create and send saved me HOURS of calling other municipalities and trying to locate the information I needed.
What a great service! I will certainly use the LIN again and again, for gathering information on recreation and leisure issues. As well as being able to help others out when I can, knowing how valuable it is getting the information you need FAST!
Thanks again, and keep up the good work!"

Very worthwhile and immediate response
"Recently I have been a user of the Leisure Information Network. I have used the service to request information on various policy development issues in our city. The response has been very worthwhile and usually immediate. The users are usually professionals in the field or have connections to the services of similar kind.
I am very exited about furthering this involvement. Already I have talked to other parties who are interested in joining the LIN."

LIN is beneficial
"I think LIN is great and beneficial in the following ways:
-helps you stay in tune with what is going on in the field (beyond you job responsibilities)
-research projects being undertaken
-issue identification
-networking with peers (quick & efficient way to get feedback)
-etc.
I have received a direct e-mail as a result of being listed on the Lin this exchange was beneficial to both parties"

LIN is a valuable LINK to my peers
"Not only has this service provided me with a valuable LINK to my peers, it has also provides me with a valuable research tool. Working in a smaller rural setting in Southwestern Ontario requires that I have quick access to valuable databases that can provide me with information so that I can respond to the issues presented to me by my Council. Through the link to LIN, I have also been able to find other services providers, agencies, peers and an unlimited value of materials that I would not have otherwise been able to access! The potential of this service has only begun to be taped and I would think that within the next 12 to 24 months the value of this service will be realized."

I think you have a winner here
"Just a short note to let you know I think you have a winner here. The future lies in technology such as this and the improved communication amongst recreation professionals is evident from the responses surrounding Core Services. Some topics that may be of interest in the future would be: 1. Professional Development Opportunities, 2. Government Funding, Direction, and Initiatives, 3. Weekly communiques from prominent recreation professionals. Being strongly oriented toward recreation facilities and associated topics. I would always welcome more information with regard to these areas. Good luck with the future of the LIN.."

I am sending you this letter to thank LIN
"I am sending you this letter to thank the Leisure Information Network for creating such a useful and easy to use Web site.
I am currently a researcher at the Intergovernmental Committee on Urban and Regional Research (ICURR), an organization which provides information services to muncipalities and provincial government departments across the country. One of my responsibilities is to gather information on municipal parks and recreation innovations. I was able to find and download several policy documents from your site which will become part of our collection here, and will then assist policy makers across the country as they devise strategies for public-private partnerships and volunteerism in the delivery of programs.
In the next few weeks I will be taking a job with a national organization that supports the delivery of fitness and recreation programming across the country, and the LIN Web site was instrumental in helping me get this new position. Allow me to explain: As part of my interview process I was required to answer a series of reference questions posed by program staff within the organization about volunteer management and promotion of fitness and recreation programs. A few quick searches of LIN and I was able to gather a number of diverse sources that I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to find elsewhere. The people who interviewed me were astounded that I could come up with such detailed information on such short notice.
I find your site to be well organized and blessedly free of annoying graphics and other whizbang stuff too often found on commercial sites. The database is quite easy to search, and by linking the database records to the full text source or ordering information, the information gathering process becomes quite painless indeed.
The people at LIN should be proud of this public resource, and I can assure you that I will be using it regularly in the future. "
